GEORGE TOWN: The Penang Port, which serves as one of the busiest trade
routes and links to more than 200 ports worldwide has been given the tumbs up by
the Thai government.
Its deputy prime minister Kittiratt Na-Ranong said his
country had gained much from the direct links its southern provinces had with
the port.
Kittiratt said
Thailand would continue to improve its railway links and highways within the
southern regions of Padang Besar, Ranong and Trang so as to tap on the vast
economic opportunities of the port.
"After visiting the
Penang Port on Friday, I now
give the thumbs up to it.
"The port has all
the makings of a true international maritime centre," he said in Penang
yesterday.
